Anderson, a city located in Madison County, Indiana, is also known as the principal city of the Anderson, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. According to the 2000 census, Anderson’s population was at 59,734. Anderson is the home of several interesting places in the Downtown Historic District, including Paramount Theatre, The Anderson Center for the Arts, Madison County Historical Center, and Mounds State Park. Anderson, Indiana is also the home of Anderson University.
Being a city, the government in Anderson contains a mayor and a city council. The mayor is elected in a vote taken citywide. The Anderson City Council is made up of 9 total members: 3 being elected at large and 6 from individual districts. Many people recognize and continue to associate Anderson with General Motors even though they closed their operations in Anderson.
Anderson’s public school system is the Anderson Community School Corporation. The school corporation is made up of one high school, one junior high school, and three elementary schools.
